Role Overview

arenaflex is seeking passionate, self‑motivated Data Engineers at all experience levels to join our rapidly expanding DataWorks team. This remote position, based in Washington, USA, offers a competitive hourly rate of $28 and a full‑time schedule (8 hours per day). You will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining large‑scale data pipelines that ingest, transform, and deliver high‑volume data across arenaflex’s internal and external services. The role blends hands‑on development, performance optimization, and mentorship, providing a unique opportunity to grow technically while influencing strategic data initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and operate scalable data pipelines that handle terabytes of data daily, ensuring reliability, low latency, and data quality.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams—including product, analytics, machine‑learning, and business stakeholders—to translate business requirements into robust data solutions.
  • Implement parsers, validators, transformers, and correlators to cleanse, enrich, and standardize data from diverse sources.
  • Monitor pipeline health, troubleshoot performance bottlenecks, and provide L3 support for critical data incidents.
  • Develop and maintain CI/CD workflows for data engineering code, leveraging version control, automated testing, and deployment pipelines.
  • Lead code reviews, enforce best practices, and mentor junior engineers on data architecture, testing, and debugging techniques.
  • Contribute to the creation of reusable components, templates, and open‑source‑style libraries that accelerate future development.
  • Partner with senior technologists and external partners to design end‑to‑end data solutions that integrate with downstream applications and services.
  • Stay current with emerging data technologies (e.g., streaming platforms, cloud data warehouses) and recommend strategic enhancements to arenaflex’s data stack.

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
  • Solid foundation in software engineering principles, data structures, and algorithm design.
  • Hands‑on experience with at least one major programming language used in data engineering (e.g., Python, Scala, Java).
  • Proficiency in working with big‑data technologies such as Apache Spark (PySpark or Scala), Hadoop Distributed File System (HDFS), and Kafka.
  • Experience with relational and NoSQL databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL, Cassandra, MongoDB, Elasticsearch) and writing performant SQL queries.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud) and infrastructure‑as‑code tools (Terraform, CloudFormation).
  • Understanding of CI/CD concepts and experience building pipelines using tools like Jenkins, GitLab CI, or Azure DevOps.
  • Strong analytical mindset with the ability to diagnose complex data issues and propose actionable solutions.
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of translating technical concepts to non‑technical stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) in Data Science, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
  • Professional experience with streaming data architectures and real‑time analytics.
  • Knowledge of containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and orchestration for data workloads.
  • Exposure to machine‑learning pipelines and libraries such as Pandas, Scikit‑Learn, TensorFlow, or PyTorch.
  • Experience implementing data governance, lineage, and security controls in large‑scale environments.
  • Track record of delivering data solutions under tight deadlines while maintaining high quality.

Core Skills & Competencies

  • Technical Acumen: Ability to write clean, maintainable code and understand system architecture from “PC‑scale” to “cluster‑scale”.
  • Problem‑Solving: Proactive approach to identifying performance gaps, data anomalies, and architectural improvements.
  • Collaboration: Comfortable working as a “translator” between IT, business, developers, and data scientists, fostering shared ownership of data products.
  • Leadership: Willingness to guide less‑experienced teammates, lead design discussions, and influence technical direction.
  • Adaptability: Ability to thrive in a fast‑changing environment, quickly adopt new tools, and pivot priorities as business needs evolve.
