About the Role

As a Fully Virtual South Dakota Special Education Teacher, you will be responsible for providing personalized learning experiences and support to students with diverse needs. This is a fully remote position, allowing you to work from anywhere while being part of a dynamic and supportive team. Your primary goal will be to develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) that cater to the unique needs of each student, ensuring they receive the best possible education and support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students with disabilities, taking into account their unique needs, strengths, and learning styles.
  • Provide direct instruction and support services to students virtually through our online platform, utilizing a range of teaching strategies and technologies to engage and motivate students.
  • Collaborate with general education teachers, parents, and other professionals to create a supportive learning environment that fosters academic achievement, social growth, and emotional well-being.
  • Monitor student progress, collect data, and adjust instructional strategies as needed to ensure students are meeting their learning objectives and making progress towards their goals.
  • Utilize technology tools effectively to enhance teaching and learning experiences, including online educational platforms, learning management systems, and digital resources.
  • Communicate regularly with parents and guardians, providing updates on student progress, sharing strategies for supporting learning at home, and soliciting feedback to inform instruction.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in special education, technology integration, and virtual teaching, ensuring you are equipped to provide high-quality instruction and support to students.

Essential Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need to possess a combination of education, experience, and skills that align with the requirements of special education teaching in a virtual environment. These include:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Special Education or a related field (Master's degree preferred), with a strong foundation in special education principles, practices, and laws.
  • A valid South Dakota teaching certificate with Special Education endorsement, demonstrating your expertise and commitment to teaching students with diverse needs.
  • Proven experience working with students with diverse learning needs and disabilities, including experience with IEP development and implementation, progress monitoring, and data-driven instruction.
  • A strong understanding of IEP development and implementation, including the ability to write, implement, and monitor IEPs that meet the unique needs of each student.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a virtual environment, including experience with online communication tools, video conferencing, and digital collaboration platforms.
  • Comfortable using online educational platforms and technology tools, including learning management systems, digital resources, and educational software.

Preferred Qualifications

While not required, the following qualifications are preferred and will be considered an asset in your application:

  • Experience teaching in a virtual or online environment, with a strong understanding of the unique challenges and opportunities of virtual teaching.
  • Experience with technology integration, including the use of digital tools, resources, and platforms to enhance teaching and learning.
  • Knowledge of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles and strategies, with the ability to design and deliver instruction that meets the diverse needs of all students.
