The Role – Remote Medical Writer (San Francisco & Nationwide Home‑Based) Fishawack is actively seeking experienced Medical Writers and senior‑level Lead Medical Writers who thrive in a fast‑paced, agency‑style environment and possess a deep passion for transforming data into clear, accurate, and engaging scientific narratives. This is a fully remote position, allowing you to work from anywhere in the United States while remaining connected to our vibrant San Francisco office and the broader Fishawack network. Key Responsibilities – What You’ll Do Every Day Scientific Research & Content Creation: Conduct thorough literature reviews, extract and interpret complex data sets, and craft original scientific content—including posters, abstracts, full‑length manuscripts, and presentation decks—that meets client objectives and adheres to strict timelines. Therapeutic Area Expertise Development: Build and maintain deep knowledge in assigned therapeutic domains (e.g., oncology, rare diseases, immunology), ensuring every piece of communication reflects the latest scientific advancements and market insights. Editorial Excellence & Mentorship: Edit and reference content produced by junior writers, provide constructive feedback, and act as a subject‑matter mentor, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and high‑quality output. Client & Stakeholder Engagement: Represent Fishawack at client advisory boards, speaker‑training sessions, and strategic meetings, delivering professional presentations and fostering strong, trust‑based relationships. Project Management Collaboration: Partner closely with Publication Managers, Project Managers, Review Specialists, and Editorial Assistants to define project scopes, track milestones, and ensure seamless delivery of deliverables across print, video, and web‑based platforms. Business Development Support: Contribute to proposal development, scientific brainstorming sessions, and strategic planning for new client opportunities, leveraging your expertise to shape compelling, data‑driven narratives that win business. Regulatory Awareness: Stay informed about evolving regulatory guidelines affecting medical communications, ensuring all content complies with industry standards while maintaining scientific integrity. Travel (Limited): Participate in up to ten (10) face‑to‑face events per year—including congresses, advisory board meetings, and client workshops—when in‑person presence adds strategic value. Essential Qualifications – What We Require Advanced Degree: Ph.D., PharmD, MD, or equivalent advanced degree in a life‑science discipline (e.g., molecular biology, pharmacology, clinical research). Professional Experience: 1–7 years of hands‑on medical writing experience within a medical communications or medical education agency, with proven success in developing scientific publications such as posters, abstracts, manuscripts, and presentation materials. Publication Planning Exposure: Demonstrated ability to contribute to the development of publication plans, aligning scientific output with client product lifecycles and therapeutic strategies. Technical Proficiency: Strong command of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and advanced literature‑search skills using PubMed, Embase, and other scientific databases. Style Mastery: Thorough familiarity with the American Medical Association (AMA) style guide, citation standards, and medical terminology. Communication Acumen: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to translate dense scientific concepts into clear, audience‑appropriate language.
