Founding Grant Writer & Grant Development Consultant (Contract-to-Growth Opportunity) Location: Remote (DFW-based preferred) Job Type: Independent Contractor / Freelance Compensation: Competitive Contract Rate (Hourly and/or Project-Based) About Kimball Ridge Advisory Services Kimball Ridge Advisory Services partners with nonprofit organizations to strengthen financial management, organizational development, fundraising strategy, and long-term sustainability. As our nonprofit consulting practice continues to grow, we are expanding our grant development services and seeking a talented Grant Writer to become a key member of our team. This is more than a freelance writing opportunity. We are looking for a professional who wants to help build and shape our grant writing department from the ground up. The ideal candidate will contribute not only to grant proposals but also to the development of systems, processes, and client services that will support the future growth of our firm. Position Summary The Founding Grant Writer & Grant Development Consultant will work directly with nonprofit clients and the Kimball Ridge leadership team to identify funding opportunities, develop competitive grant proposals, and support grant readiness initiatives. Initially, this position will operate on a contract basis; however, as the department grows, there may be opportunities for expanded responsibilities, leadership, and long-term engagement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Research and identify grant opportunities for nonprofit clients.
  • Write compelling grant proposals, letters of inquiry, and funding requests.
  • Assist clients with grant readiness assessments and funding strategies.
  • Collaborate with nonprofit leaders to gather programmatic and financial information.
  • Develop grant budgets and supporting documentation.
  • Maintain grant calendars and track submission deadlines.
  • Assist with grant reporting and funder communications when needed.
  • Recommend and help implement systems, templates, and best practices for the grant writing department.
  • Contribute ideas that support the growth and scalability of Kimball Ridge's grant services.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience writing successful grant proposals.
  • Demonstrated track record of securing foundation, corporate, and/or government funding.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and communication skills.
  • Strong project management and organizational abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple client projects simultaneously.
  • Understanding of nonprofit operations, fundraising, and financial documentation.
