Provider Engagement Project Specialist

Remote, USA Full-time Posted 2026-06-25

Provider Engagement Project Specialist (Part Time Temporary) The Fund for Public Health in New York City (FPHNYC) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to the advancement of the health and well-being of all New Yorkers. In partnership with the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH), FPHNYC incubates innovative public health initiatives implemented by DOHMH to advance community health throughout the city. It facilitates partnerships, often new and unconventional, between government and the private sector to develop, test, and launch new initiatives. These collaborations speed the execution of demonstration projects, affect the expansion of successful pilot programs, and support rapid implementation to meet the public health needs of individuals, families, and communities across New York City. We embrace a culture of learning, collaboration, innovation, and well-being, where open communication drives our impact. About The Role To understand healthcare provider needs related to emerging substances, NYC Health Department seeks a provider engagement specialist to engage its existing network of NYC healthcare providers and providers in other jurisdictions who may treat patients who have used emerging substances of public health concern. The provider engagement specialist will synthesize findings and draft a recommendations report on communicating about emerging substances to New York City healthcare providers, with the ultimate goal of improving care for people who use drugs. This is a temporary position ending in August 31, 2026, with some flexibility in hours and duration. The New York City Health Department identifies novel substances of public health concern through the New York City drug checking program. Due to the volatility of the drug supply, new substances are frequently detected through New York City's supply, such as medetomidine, xylazine, and BTMPS. The NYC Health Department disseminates data about emerging substances of public health concern to service providers, people who use drugs, and the public to address and mitigate potential health impacts.

Responsibilities

  • Lead meetings with New York City healthcare providers, healthcare leaders, and providers from similar jurisdictions to discuss emerging substances and communication needs, including conducting outreach to providers, planning meetings, drafting topic guides, facilitating meetings, and recording findings.
  • Synthesize findings by reviewing notes towards generating actionable recommendations for the NYC Health Department
  • Review peer-reviewed literature and other publications on best practices for healthcare provider communication around emerging substance
  • Write recommendations report on communication and education to providers about emerging substances.
  • Other duties as assigned to support the overall goals and mission of the department/organization.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in public health, or a related field, preferred but not required. Bachelor’s Degree Required.
  • Knowledge of substance use care, including harm reduction, trauma-informed care, person-centered care, and anti-stigma practices in healthcare.
  • Experience engaging with healthcare staff and leaders, including facilitating and leading meetings.
  • Ability to lead discussions and facilitate structured meetings to generate actionable recommendations.
  • Experience with healthcare education, health communication, clinical education, qualitative methods, and/or public health knowledge translation a plus.
  • Strong analytical and synthesis skills.
  • Excellent computer skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with experience developing reports and presentations.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
