Role Overview – Senior Data Engineering & Business Intelligence Manager (Remote)

arenaflex is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Data Engineering & Business Intelligence Manager to lead the design, development, and maintenance of our enterprise‑wide Data Warehouse and BI platform. This role sits at the intersection of technology and business, enabling stakeholders to ask “what,” “when,” “how,” and even “what‑if” questions with confidence. You will own the end‑to‑end data pipeline—from ingestion and transformation to visualization—ensuring that data is accurate, secure, and readily available for strategic decision‑making across the organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Architect and implement robust ETL/ELT pipelines using Python and Apache Airflow (or equivalent orchestration tools) to ingest, cleanse, and transform data from a variety of sources.
  • Design, build, and optimize data marts, data warehouses, and data lake structures on platforms such as MySQL, SQL Server, Vertica, and cloud‑based storage solutions.
  • Develop and maintain interactive dashboards and self‑service reporting tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, Looker) tailored for C‑level executives, business analysts, and operational teams.
  • Collaborate closely with product owners, business analysts, and IT partners to gather requirements, translate them into technical specifications, and deliver data solutions that align with strategic objectives.
  • Lead the creation of ad‑hoc reports and data visualizations that empower data‑curious users to explore “what‑if” scenarios and uncover hidden opportunities.
  • Establish and enforce data governance, quality, and security standards across the data lifecycle, conducting regular code reviews and performance audits.
  • Mentor junior engineers and analysts, fostering a culture of continuous learning, knowledge sharing, and best‑practice adoption.
  • Stay ahead of emerging technologies and industry trends, evaluating new tools and frameworks that could enhance arenaflex’s data capabilities.
  • Drive process improvements by identifying bottlenecks, recommending automation, and prioritizing initiatives based on business impact.

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 2 years of hands‑on experience building data pipelines with Python and Airflow (or similar orchestration tools).
  • Proven expertise in designing and implementing data warehouses, data marts, and data lake architectures.
  • Strong command of SQL, including complex query writing, performance tuning, and schema design.
  • Demonstrated ability to create executive‑level dashboards and reports that translate technical data into clear business insights.
  • Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, and critical‑thinking abilities.
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills, with the capacity to convey technical concepts to non‑technical audiences.
  • Track record of delivering high‑quality work under tight deadlines and in fast‑paced environments.

Preferred Qualifications & Additional Experience

  • Experience with cloud data platforms such as AWS Redshift, Google BigQuery, or Azure Synapse.
  • Familiarity with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and CI/CD pipelines for data engineering workloads.
  • Knowledge of data modeling techniques (star, snowflake, normalized) and dimensional design.
  • Exposure to machine learning pipelines and the ability to collaborate with data science teams.
  • Certification in data engineering, business intelligence, or related fields (e.g., Google Cloud Professional Data Engineer, Microsoft Certified: Data Analyst Associate).
  • Previous experience leading cross‑functional teams in a remote or distributed setting.

Core Skills & Competencies

  • Technical Proficiency: Python, Airflow, SQL, ETL/ELT design, data warehousing, BI tools, and cloud services.
  • Business Acumen: Ability to understand business processes, translate them into data requirements, and deliver insights that drive revenue, efficiency, or risk mitigation.
  • Collaboration: Strong partnership skills with product, engineering, and operations teams to align data initiatives with broader organizational goals.
  • Leadership: Coaching and mentoring capabilities, fostering a supportive environment for junior talent.
  • Adaptability: Comfort with evolving priorities, rapid prototyping, and iterative development cycles.
  • Quality Focus: Commitment to data integrity, governance, and compliance standards.
