Software Quality Engineer

Cumulus is a Quality Management System (QMS) focused on improving the productivity and quality of critical work through AI-powered workflows and connected IoT devices. The Software Quality Engineer will ensure the reliability and quality of software products, primarily focusing on the React Native mobile application and contributing to testing efforts for the React web application.

Responsibilities

  • Execute manual and automated test cases on iOS and Android builds of the Cumulus React Native mobile application, as well as the Cumulus React web application
  • Write, maintain, and expand automated test scripts using Detox or Appium for mobile, and Cypress or equivalent frameworks for the web application
  • Perform end-to-end testing of Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) integrations between the mobile application and smart field tools
  • Develop test cases and test plans for new features and regression cycles
  • Collaborate with developers on test strategies, participate in code reviews, and contribute to sprint ceremonies
  • Execute physical hardware integration tests on-site at the Boston office using real devices and smart tools
  • Reproduce, document, and track bugs through to resolution; analyze system logs and telemetry to diagnose defects
  • Communicate findings clearly across teams via Slack, GitHub, and technical documentation
  • Develop and execute comprehensive test plans and test cases for the Cumulus React Native mobile application (iOS and Android) and the Cumulus React web application
  • Build and augment automated test suites for mobile (Detox/Appium), web (Cypress), and BLE hardware integration scenarios
  • Perform manual testing of field workflows, with physical hardware on-site at the Boston office as required
  • Identify, isolate, and track software and integration defects; collaborate with engineers to drive resolution
  • Maintain CI integration and testing environments; contribute reusable testing utilities and automation tooling
  • Analyze defect patterns, test coverage gaps, and release metrics to proactively improve quality
  • Support team agile practices including sprint planning, retrospectives, and test readiness reviews
  • Stay current with evolving mobile and web testing tools, BLE testing methodologies, and QA best practices

Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
  • Proficiency in TypeScript and/or JavaScript; ability to read, write, and debug code independently
  • Familiarity with mobile application testing on iOS and/or Android platforms, and/or web application testing
  • Experience writing or maintaining automated tests using frameworks such as Detox, Appium, Jest, or Cypress
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to document findings clearly for both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and self-motivated
  • Experience testing Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) integrations or other wireless communication protocols
  • Background in embedded systems, firmware, or electrical engineering — particularly relevant for hardware integration testing
  • Familiarity with the Cumulus technology stack: React Native, React (web), GraphQL, AWS, DynamoDB
  • Working knowledge of UNIX-based systems and command-line tools for debugging and automation
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automated test integration (e.g., GitHub Actions, Bitrise, or equivalent)
  • 0–3 years of experience in software quality engineering, software development, or a related discipline (entry-level and Level 2 candidates welcome)
