Embedded Software Engineer I

Axon is on a mission to protect life through its ecosystem of devices and cloud software. They are seeking an Embedded Software Engineer I to develop embedded software for Axon devices, ensuring critical evidence is captured during essential moments for customers. The role involves designing, developing, testing, and maintaining embedded applications while collaborating with cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the design, development, and maintenance of embedded applications and network configurations for current and future Axon products
  • Implement features and enhancements in C/C++, Go, or Python with a focus on reliability and performance
  • Write and maintain unit, integration, and system-level tests
  • Participate actively in code reviews, design discussions, and technical problem solving
  • Collaborate with Product Management, Design, Firmware, and Cloud Engineering teams to deliver integrated solutions
  • Debug and resolve issues across embedded devices, networking layers, and supporting systems
  • Support continuous improvement of engineering processes including sprint planning, retrospectives, and release cycles
  • Learn and apply modern open source tools and frameworks relevant to embedded systems

Skills

  • 1–3 years of professional software development experience
  • Proficiency in at least one of the following languages: C/C++, Go, or Python
  • Experience working with Linux-based systems in a professional setting
  • Experience writing unit and integration tests
  • Solid understanding of computer science fundamentals including data structures, algorithms, and object-oriented design
  • Strong debugging and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, cross-functional team environment
  • Eagerness to learn and grow in a fast-paced, mission-critical engineering environment
  • Exposure to embedded devices and networking concepts such as TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, or VPN is a plus

  • This role is based out of our Seattle, Scottsdale, or Boston offices and follows a hybrid schedule. We rely on in-person collaboration and ask that team members work onsite Tuesdays through Fridays, with the flexibility to work remotely on Mondays, unless there is an approved workplace accommodation.
