Position Overview

As an Overnight Custodian at arenaflex, you will be responsible for the comprehensive cleaning, sanitization, light maintenance, and security of the high school facility during third-shift hours. You will work closely with a small team of dedicated professionals who share your commitment to excellence. The ideal candidate is reliable, self-motivated, and capable of performing physically demanding tasks while maintaining a friendly, service-oriented attitude.

Key Responsibilities

• Comprehensive Cleaning: Perform daily cleaning of classrooms, restrooms, offices, corridors, stairwells, locker rooms, cafeterias, libraries, and common areas using approved cleaning agents, equipment, and techniques.
• Sanitization & Disinfection: Pay special attention to high-touch surfaces such as doorknobs, light switches, handrails, drinking fountains, and restroom fixtures to maintain a healthy environment and prevent the spread of illness.
• Floor Care: Sweep, mop, vacuum, scrub, strip, wax, and buff various flooring types including tile, vinyl, hardwood, and carpeted surfaces.
• Trash & Recycling Management: Empty waste receptacles, replace liners, transport refuse to designated collection areas, and ensure proper recycling protocols are followed.
• Restroom Stocking & Maintenance: Replenish paper products, soap, and sanitizing supplies; report any plumbing issues or maintenance needs promptly.
• Light Maintenance & Repairs: Replace light bulbs, perform minor plumbing fixes (such as unclogging drains), tighten loose fixtures, and report larger repair needs to the facilities supervisor.
• Security & Safety Checks: Lock and unlock doors, arm/disarm security systems as needed, perform periodic building walkthroughs to identify safety hazards, and report any suspicious activity to the appropriate authorities.
• Event Setup & Breakdown: Arrange tables, chairs, and equipment for evening or weekend events and return spaces to their standard configuration afterward.
• Snow & Ice Removal: During winter months, apply ice melt, shovel walkways, and operate snow blowers to keep entrances and exits safe for early-morning arrivals.
• Grounds Maintenance: Sweep entrances, pick up litter, empty outdoor trash cans, and assist with seasonal grounds care as needed.
• Inventory & Supply Management: Track cleaning supplies, notify supervisors when reorders are needed, and ensure equipment is properly stored and maintained.
• Communication & Reporting: Maintain a daily log of completed tasks, incidents, and any maintenance issues; communicate effectively with the day-shift team through written reports and verbal handoffs.

Work Schedule

This is a full-time, third-shift position with a consistent overnight schedule:

• Shift Hours: 10:00 PM – 6:00 AM
• Days: Monday through Friday (with occasional weekend or holiday work for special events)
• Breaks: Paid and unpaid breaks in accordance with company and labor guidelines

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
• Legal authorization to work in the United States

• Reliable transportation and consistent punctuality
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
• Basic reading, writing, and math skills to follow written instructions, complete logs, and mix cleaning solutions safely

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior custodial, janitorial, maintenance, or facilities experience (1+ years preferred)
• Experience working in a school, university, hospital, or large commercial facility
• Familiarity with floor care equipment such as auto-scrubbers, buffers, and carpet extractors
• Knowledge of OSHA safety standards, MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheets), and proper chemical handling
• Basic knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, or electrical systems
• CPR and First Aid certification (training may be provided)
• Bilingual skills (a plus, but not required)
