Position Overview

arenaflex is hiring an experienced Enterprise Controls and Oversight Leader to provide comprehensive direction on all internal controls over financial reporting (ICFR) and financial management matters. Reporting directly to the Head Accounting Officer, this part-time remote role will lead teams performing financial reporting management and oversight, enterprise-wide COSO business and technology controls testing, and other enterprise management and oversight functions. You will be a critical member of the Regulatory Reporting team, responsible for establishing and maintaining key broad policies governing financial reporting risk for SEC and regulatory reporting, designing annual plans-to-test, and assessing the effectiveness of internal controls over financial reporting.

This position is ideal for a results-driven executive who can balance strategic vision with hands-on execution. You will represent arenaflex in interactions, meetings, and risk programs with Independent Risk Management, while also building trusted relationships with external auditors, regulators, and internal stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership and vision to the Enterprise Controls and Oversight Organization, shaping the future of financial controls at arenaflex.
  • Define a planned, intentional end-to-end control and testing program that meets diverse requirements such as SOX and regulatory reporting, while avoiding duplication and providing a holistic assessment of arenaflex's financial reporting control environment.
  • Lead internal control teams in understanding, evaluating, and improving the design and operating effectiveness of entity-level, business process, and information technology general controls.
  • Ensure lines of business have reliable, sound, fact-based assessments of their financial control environment to inform decision-making and risk mitigation efforts.
  • Drive best-practice standardization and develop a framework that can be consistently executed across arenaflex's diverse business units.
  • Hire, retain, develop, and motivate a high-performing financial controls testing team committed to excellence.
  • Manage relationships with colleagues across the organization and ensure effective delivery of a full-service control and oversight model to both Lines of Business and functional areas.
  • Maintain a careful balance between risk mitigation and operational efficiency, ensuring arenaflex remains agile while compliant.
  • Oversee communication of testing work with various constituents, including the Disclosure and Regulatory Reporting Committees, Audit Committee, and external auditors.
  • Maintain strong relationships with external accountants and assist with matters of independence, fees, coordination of controls assessment, substantive audit work, and documentation.
  • Provide oversight of policies related to other enterprise functions as needed, contributing to the broader risk and compliance posture of arenaflex.

Essential Qualifications

  • 4+ years of experience in Finance, Accounting, Treasury, Audit, Reporting, or equivalent experience demonstrated through a combination of work experience, training, military service, or education.
  • 4+ years of management experience, with a proven track record of leading high-performing teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Active Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of accounting, reporting, and internal controls requirements within a large, diversified U.S. financial services institution.
  • Strong understanding of current financial and regulatory requirements, including experience implementing a COSO-based Sarbanes-Oxley internal control assessment.
  • Experience interfacing with banking, financial, and insurance regulators, as well as internal and external auditors.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts to create understanding and influence decisions.
  • Capacity to effectively develop innovative solutions and drive transformational change, supported by strong analytical and critical thinking skills combined with strategic business focus.
  • Highly collaborative with a demonstrated ability to lead large, complex, and diverse teams, with an exceptional history of delivering results.
  • An "own it" mentality and a "practitioner" comfort level in a fast-paced, complex environment; skilled at solving problems collaboratively through open and productive discussion.
  • A smart, decisive, self-assured, and results-oriented professional who possesses a combination of mental flexibility, creativity, analytical ability, and sound business judgment.
  • Authoritative leader who sets high standards and drives performance; able to inspire, motivate, engage, and develop a financial organization to achieve outstanding results.
  • Capacity to recruit, mentor, and develop the next generation of financial leadership at arenaflex.
  • Solid interpersonal skills, exceptional insight, and a remarkable ability to communicate using these qualities and skills.
  • Meticulous, responsive, and proactive approach to work; encourages clarity, transparency, consistency, and broad understanding across the business.
  • A dynamic, productive, and resourceful team player who takes ownership of deliverables and consistently meets tight deadlines.
  • Ability to work effectively and exert influence within a matrix environment, building trusted relationships with Executive Leadership, peers, and the broader business and functional leaders across arenaflex.
  • Impeccable personal and professional integrity; capable of delivering constructive criticism while demanding top performance from both self and colleagues.
