arenaflex is a global leader in logistics, supply‑chain intelligence, and digital transformation. With a heritage of over a century in moving goods across continents, arenaflex has reinvented itself as a technology‑first organization that leverages massive data streams to create smarter, faster, and more sustainable delivery experiences. Our mission is to turn raw data into actionable insight, empowering customers, partners, and internal teams to make decisions that drive efficiency, reduce waste, and enhance the end‑consumer experience.

Why This Role Matters

In today’s hyper‑connected world, data is the lifeblood of every operation. As a Data Engineer at arenaflex, you will be at the heart of the data ecosystem, building and maintaining the pipelines that ingest, transform, and deliver critical information to business users, analytics platforms, and downstream applications. Your work will directly influence how arenaflex optimizes routes, predicts demand, and delivers packages on time, every time.

Role Summary

This is a fully remote, full‑time position based in the United States (preferably New York). You will join a high‑performing, cross‑functional team that designs, implements, and operates large‑scale data infrastructure. The role offers a competitive hourly rate of $25, flexible working hours (8 hours per day), and the opportunity to grow your career within a forward‑thinking organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain robust data pipelines that handle terabytes of information daily, ensuring reliability, scalability, and low latency.
  • Collaborate with data scientists, analysts, and product owners to translate business requirements into technical specifications.
  • Develop and maintain ETL/ELT processes using modern frameworks such as Apache Spark, PySpark, and Flink.
  • Implement data validation, cleansing, and enrichment routines to guarantee data quality and consistency.
  • Monitor pipeline performance, troubleshoot bottlenecks, and proactively optimize resource utilization.
  • Provide Level‑3 support for production incidents, performing root‑cause analysis and implementing preventive measures.
  • Document architecture, data models, and operational procedures to foster knowledge sharing across the organization.
  • Mentor junior engineers, conduct code reviews, and champion best practices in software engineering and data engineering.
  • Participate in agile ceremonies, contribute to sprint planning, and deliver incremental value in two‑week cycles.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies (e.g., cloud native services, streaming platforms) and recommend strategic enhancements.

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related discipline.
  • 3+ years of hands‑on experience building data pipelines in a production environment.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Scala, or Java.
  • Strong understanding of relational databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL) and NoSQL stores (Cassandra, MongoDB, Elasticsearch).
  • Experience with big‑data technologies: Hadoop Distributed File System (HDFS), Kafka, Spark, and related ecosystems.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and infrastructure‑as‑code tools like Terraform.
  • Knowledge of CI/CD concepts and tools (Jenkins, GitLab CI, Azure DevOps).
  • Excellent problem‑solving skills, with the ability to diagnose complex data‑related issues under pressure.
  • Strong communication skills, capable of translating technical concepts for non‑technical stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or advanced certifications in data engineering, cloud architecture, or related fields.
  • Hands‑on experience with Azure Data Factory, AWS Glue, or Google Cloud Dataflow.
  • Exposure to machine‑learning pipelines and libraries such as Pandas, Scikit‑Learn, TensorFlow, or PyTorch.
  • Experience implementing data governance, security, and compliance frameworks (e.g., GDPR, CCPA).
  • Background in logistics, transportation, or supply‑chain domains, providing contextual insight into business challenges.

Core Skills & Competencies

  • Analytical mindset: Ability to dissect large data sets, identify patterns, and propose actionable solutions.
  • Collaboration: Comfortable working in distributed, multicultural teams across time zones.
  • Adaptability: Thrive in a fast‑changing environment, quickly learning new tools and technologies.
  • Attention to detail: Commitment to data integrity, documentation, and reproducibility.
  • Leadership: Demonstrated capacity to guide less‑experienced engineers and influence technical direction.

Career Growth & Learning Opportunities

arenaflex invests heavily in employee development. As a Data Engineer, you will have access to:

  • Annual learning stipend for conferences, certifications, or online courses.
  • Mentorship programs pairing you with senior architects and industry experts.
  • Opportunities to work on cross‑functional projects that span analytics, AI, and product development.
  • Clear promotion pathways from Engineer II to Senior Engineer, Lead Engineer, and eventually Data Platform Architect.
  • Exposure to global scale challenges that will sharpen your expertise in distributed systems and cloud engineering.

Compensation, Perks & Benefits

While the base compensation is $25 per hour, arenaflex offers a comprehensive benefits package that includes:

  • Health, dental, and vision insurance with multiple plan options.
  • 401(k) matching program to help you plan for retirement.
  • Generous paid time off (PTO) and flexible holiday schedule.
  • Remote‑work allowance covering home office equipment, internet, and ergonomic accessories.
  • Employee assistance program (EAP) for mental‑health support.
  • Wellness initiatives such as virtual fitness classes and mindfulness sessions.
  • Company‑wide recognition programs and quarterly bonuses based on performance.
