Role Overview – Remote Data Engineer (Operations Analytics)

We are seeking a highly motivated Remote Data Engineer to join arenaflex’s Operations Analytics (OA) team. In this role, you will be the architect behind the “single source of truth” data foundations that power analytics, reporting, and decision‑making across the organization. Working from the comfort of your home office, you will collaborate with cross‑functional partners to design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines, curate high‑quality datasets, and enable self‑service analytics for business leaders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Data Acquisition & Integration: Identify, extract, and ingest data from a wide variety of internal and external sources, ensuring completeness and accuracy for downstream analysis.
  • Data Cleansing & Curation: Apply rigorous data‑quality standards, transform raw feeds into clean, well‑documented tables, and maintain metadata that supports easy discovery and reuse.
  • Automation & Scalability: Design and implement automated ETL/ELT workflows using modern orchestration tools, enabling reliable, repeatable data delivery at scale.
  • Reporting Enablement: Build modular, reusable reporting solutions that empower business users to generate insights without reliance on engineering resources.
  • Technology Innovation: Stay ahead of emerging data technologies (cloud platforms, streaming, data‑mesh concepts) and proactively recommend improvements that align with arenaflex’s strategic roadmap.
  • Collaboration & Mentorship: Partner with data analysts, product owners, and IT teams to translate business requirements into technical specifications, and mentor junior engineers on best practices.
  • Security & Compliance: Embed data‑privacy and security controls into every pipeline, adhering to industry regulations and arenaflex’s internal policies.
  • Performance Optimization: Continuously monitor and fine‑tune data workloads to reduce latency, improve throughput, and lower operational costs.
  • Problem Solving Under Pressure: Thrive in a fast‑paced environment with shifting priorities, delivering high‑quality results against tight deadlines.
  • Team‑First Mindset: Contribute to a collaborative culture where the success of the team and the organization is the top priority.

Minimum Qualifications (What You Need to Succeed)

  • 3+ years of professional experience in data engineering, analytics, or a related field.
  • Strong proficiency in SQL and hands‑on experience with ETL/ELT design patterns.
  • Solid programming skills in Python, SAS, or comparable languages; ability to write clean, maintainable code.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues in reporting database environments.
  • Self‑starter attitude with a proven track record of managing multiple projects and meeting competing deadlines.
  • Commitment to safety, data privacy, and security best practices in all operational activities.
  • Excellent communication skills, curiosity, and a willingness to ask insightful questions.
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent; higher education preferred.
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States and at least 18 years of age.

Preferred Qualifications (What Gives You a Competitive Edge)

  • Bachelor’s degree or certifications in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Science, or a related quantitative discipline.
  • Prior experience in the airline or travel industry, understanding of flight operations data.
  • Hands‑on experience with cloud‑native platforms such as Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
  • Familiarity with modern data‑warehouse solutions (Snowflake, Redshift, BigQuery) and data‑lake architectures.
  • Exposure to containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and CI/CD pipelines for data workloads.

Core Skills & Competencies

  • Analytical Thinking: Ability to dissect complex data problems and translate business needs into technical solutions.
  • Collaboration: Comfortable working with diverse, geographically dispersed teams and building consensus.
  • Adaptability: Thrive in an environment of rapid change, ambiguous requirements, and evolving technology stacks.
  • Attention to Detail: Meticulous approach to data quality, documentation, and compliance.
  • Continuous Learning: Passion for staying current with industry trends, tools, and best practices.
