Planner I Hybrid
SAFEbuilt is a company dedicated to providing Community Development services through a team of over 1600 experts. They are seeking a Planner I to support local governments with various planning projects, such as zoning and design review, while gaining hands-on experience and mentorship from seasoned planners.
Responsibilities
- Assist city and county planning departments with current and long-range planning tasks
- Review site plans, zoning requests, and administrative applications
- Provide public counter services and respond to community inquiries
- Conduct research for comprehensive plan and code updates
- Prepare and present staff reports and recommendations to boards and commissions
- Build collaborative relationships with municipal staff and colleagues
Skills
- Bachelor's degree in urban planning, architecture, geography, or a related field
- 1–3 years of experience in public or private sector planning (internships count)
- Strong written, verbal, and visual communication skills
- Curiosity, initiative, and a genuine interest in community development
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe Suite; familiarity with GIS or electronic permitting is a plus
- A team-oriented mindset and commitment to excellent customer service
- Understanding basic planning and zoning practice along with the ability to review plans and apply provisions of the ordinances and codes to determine compliance with such regulations
- Reading and interpreting site plans, floor plans, elevations, and sections. Ability to understand and apply dimensional scales as it applies to development review
- Writing and communicating effectively
- The application of statistical, algebraic, or geometric knowledge to practical situations
- Working with computer hardware and software programs, which may include the Microsoft Office suite, the Adobe suite, Internet applications, GIS, desktop plan review software, and electronic permitting systems
- Being able to positively interact with the other team members, the general public, contractors, governmental entities, and other clientele
- Demonstrating specific attention to detail
- Proficiency in a second language is a plus
- Familiarity with GIS or electronic permitting is a plus
