Civil Defense Associate
Reed McClure is a Seattle-based litigation firm representing national and regional insurers, businesses, and individuals throughout Washington. They are seeking a full- or part-time Associate Attorney with at least one year of civil litigation experience to support senior attorneys in managing a diverse caseload and participate in various litigation activities.
Responsibilities
- Drafting pleadings, motions, discovery requests, and discovery responses
- Conducting legal research and preparing memoranda on liability, damages, and insurance coverage issues
- Taking and defending depositions of parties, witnesses, and experts
- Arguing motions in state and federal courts
- Attending court hearings, arbitrations, mediations, and settlement conferences
- Evaluating claims, providing liability and damages analyses, and preparing case assessments for insurance carriers
- Communicating regularly and effectively with clients, claims professionals, and opposing counsel
- Preparing cases for trial, including exhibit lists, witness preparation, trial briefs, and jury instructions
- Assisting senior attorneys with larger, complex matters as needed
- Maintaining accurate and prompt timekeeping while meeting annual billable goal of 1,800 hours for full-time status. Reduced-hour expectations are negotiable for part-time attorneys
Skills
- J.D. from an accredited law school
- Active membership in good standing with the Washington State Bar
- One or more years of litigation experience
- Proficient research, analytical, writing, and oral advocacy skills
- Ability to stay organized, work independently, manage deadlines, and prioritize competing tasks
- Professionalism, sound judgment, and a client-focused approach
- Insurance defense experience strongly preferred
