The Engineer II has a passion for tackling hard problems. A veteran who knows how to get things done and how-to future-proof our architecture and implementations to scale for years to come. This position plays a pivotal role in shaping the definition, vision, design, roadmap, and development of all systems at U.S. Xpress. Position Functions: · Design, implement, test, deploy and maintain innovative software solutions to transform service performance, durability, cost, and security. · Own the development lifecycle with a focus on developing new features and functionalities for assigned software applications. · Use software engineering best practices to ensure a high standard of quality for all of the team deliverables. · Write high quality distributed system software. · Work in an agile development environment, always working on the most important projects. · Collaborate with other teams and across departments to deliver new features and products. What We’re Looking For: Education · Bachelor's degree in Computer Science plus 3 years of relevant professional experience or Master’s degree in a related field plus 1 year of relevant professional experience required Experience Experience with at least one modern programming language (Java, Python, JavaScript, Go or C#) and unit testing Experience in debugging in shell and AWS Experience with AWS services (IAM, S3, Dynamo) Previous experience in mentoring junior engineers or leading small tasks within a team Previous experience in creating technical documentation · Transportation, Logistics, and/or Tech industry experience a plus Skills & Abilities · Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail · Good communication skills with the ability to work effectively within a team · Owned simple applications or modules, ensuring the code is maintained using best practices · Created and maintained documentation for functions within the code to ensure clarity and maintainability · Familiarity with common debugging tools and techniques · Adept at assessing organizational dynamics and managing change · Works quickly and efficiently. Able to test solutions, learn, and iterate quickly · Proactive and pragmatic problem solver · Communicates effectively across multiple mediums Licenses & Certifications · N/A Work Environment / Physical Requirements – Normal office settings.
