Job Summary

The Product Owner (PO) is a member of the Agile Team responsible for defining user stories and prioritizing the Team Backlog to streamline the execution of program priorities while maintaining the conceptual and technical integrity of the Features or components for the team.  The Product Owner will work directly with a product manager to analyze Epiq Discovery stories, including backlog grooming, understanding customer use cases, and working with developers to understand implementation complexity.

Essential Job Responsibilities

  • Be the liaison between the business unit teams and development/technology teams
  • Responsible for developing functional requirements and related business rules based on customer’s (internal and external) needs
  • Collaborate with developers and subject matter experts to establish the technical vision and analyze tradeoffs between usability and performance needs
  • Work closely with key business partners and subject matter experts in the definition, testing, training, implementation, and support of functional requirements
  • Identify requirements via industry standard analysis techniques such as data flow modeling, workflow analysis, and functional decomposition analysis. Solicit requirements through interviews, workshops, and/or existing systems documentation or procedures.
  • Develops and analyzes functional and non-functional requirements for technology solutions with stakeholders according to Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) and internal standards to ensure business needs are well understood, clearly defined, and properly aligned with overall project scope.
  • Participate in daily stand-up meetings to facilitate the understanding, clarification, and implementation of requirements in an Agile development environment
  • Critically evaluate information gathered from multiple sources, reconcile conflicts, decompose high-level information into details, abstract up from low-level information to a general understanding, and distinguish user requests from the underlying true needs
  • Drive and challenge business units on their assumptions of how they will successfully execute their plans
  • Serves as the conduit between the customer community (internal and external customers) and the software development team through which requirements flow
  • Develop functional requirements specifications according to standard templates, using natural language and user stories

Qualifications & Requirements

Education

  • Required: Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Information Systems, or a related field.

  • Preferred: Master's degree in Business Administration or a related field.

Experience

  • Required: Minimum of 3 years of experience in product development or a related field.

  • Preferred: Experience in managing product development teams and projects.

Certifications

  • Required: None.

  • Preferred: Certified ScrumMaster (CSM) or equivalent certification.
