Remote Dental Insurance & Claims Specialist

Overview

Optimum Dental Support Services is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Dental Insurance & Claims Specialist to join our growing team. This fully remote position will begin at approximately 25-30 hours per week, with strong potential to transition into a full-time role within the next year. In this role, you will leverage your expertise in insurance verification, dental coding, and claims management to support multi-site dental practices and ensure accurate, efficient billing processes. The ideal candidate is focused, dedicated, and highly organized, with a strong attention to detail and a commitment to delivering exceptional service while helping practices navigate insurance processes and improve collections.

Responsibilities

  • Verify dental insurance benefits accurately and thoroughly
  • Ensure insurance plans are correctly built within practice management software
  • Document detailed insurance breakdowns within each patient chart
  • Submit prior authorizations to commercial insurance plans and Medicaid
  • Maintain and manage the Prior Authorization tracking log
  • Communicate approvals and denials to supported offices in a timely manner
  • Submit dental insurance claims accurately and efficiently
  • Identify and attach appropriate supporting documentation (e.g., radiographs, narratives, periodontal charting) when submitting claims to support claim adjudication and reduce denials
  • Review Explanation of Benefits (EOBs) to identify underpayments or claim discrepancies and assist with appeals or corrections when necessary
  • Assist with insurance credentialing and provider enrollment activities as needed
  • Assist with follow-up and resolution of aging insurance claims
  • Provide insurance and claims support for multi-site dental practices

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of dental insurance and claims experience required
  • Strong understanding of traditional insurance and Medicaid processes
  • Experience with prior authorizations and insurance verification
  • Experience working aging insurance claims
  • Curve Dental experience preferred but not required
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail
  • Self-motivated and dedicated to working remotely
  • Ability to manage workload independently and meet deadlines
  • Proven clerical experience with strong organizational skills to manage multiple claims and documentation tasks simultaneously.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, including the ability to track, organize, and manage insurance claims or prior authorization data
  • Excellent communication skills for liaising with healthcare providers, insurance representatives, and patients when necessary.
  • Ability to maintain HIPAA compliance and protect patient confidentiality, including working in a secure, private workspace with a password-protected network
  • Ability to work consistent daytime hours (day shift) in a remote environment
  • Ability to attend and participate in weekly team meetings with management
  • Ability to maintain a quiet, professional, and distraction-free remote workspace during scheduled working hours
  • Must successfully pass a background check as a condition of employment

Position Details

  • Approximately 30 hours per week
  • Fully remote position
  • Opportunity to transition to full-time within 12 months based on performance and business growth
  • Compensation based on experience
