(Hybrid) Research Data Management Librarian - Downtown Library

About the position WVU Libraries is seeking a Research Data Management Librarian to join its new Research Support & Engagement (RSE) unit, which advances the library's portfolio of activities in support of the University's research enterprise. The Research Data Management Librarian will deliver specialized research support aimed at skill development and training, information sharing, and advocacy in research data management and sharing, locating data sources and advising on data privacy regulations and ethical considerations. Responsibilities

  • Lead the RSE Team's Research Data Management and Sharing service, prioritizing services and initiatives on research data management and sharing plans.
  • Data organization.
  • Metadata standards and storage options.
  • Identifying data repositories for storing, preserving, archiving, and sharing research data.
  • Analyze and assess campus data management and sharing needs, current initiatives, and future directions.
  • Work collaboratively across the Libraries and University to support campus research data management and sharing services.
  • Lead the RSE Team in the analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation of research data management and sharing services.
  • Provide consultations, workshops, learning and directional materials, and other instructional programming on research data management planning, organization, documentation, and preservation to meet funder requirements and best practices in line with the FAIR, CARE, and TRUST principles.
  • Identify and connect with University stakeholders engaged in or requiring engagement in research data management.
  • Stay current on best practices in research data management and sharing services.
  • Assist in the delivery of data analysis and visualization services, including consultations, workshops, learning and directional materials, and other instructional programming.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in the humanities, social sciences, STEM, or health sciences domains, offering specialized guidance and expertise through in-depth research support services, training, and assistance with information resources.
  • Deliver comprehensive general reference assistance via on-call availability, email, and chat services.
  • Engage in professional development and/or research related to the individual's assignment and/or the needs of the Libraries and the University.
  • Serve and actively contribute to relevant committees, task forces, and working groups at the Library, University, regional, and/or national level.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited program and/or a graduate degree in a related field.
  • Knowledge of the research data lifecycle, research data management and sharing standards and best practices, including FAIR principles and ethical data practices.
  • Strong organizational, project, and time management skills to lead or coordinate multiple projects.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work flexibly and effectively in groups.
