Senior Technical Product Manager – Developer Platform & Engineering Productivity Leadership for Scalable Cloud Services at Airbnb

Remote, USA Full-time Posted 2026-06-25

About Airbnb & the Developer Platform Team

Airbnb is more than a global travel marketplace; it is a thriving community of over 4 million Hosts who welcome more than 1 billion guest arrivals each year. Our mission is to create a world where anyone can belong anywhere, and the technology that powers this vision is built by some of the most innovative engineers on the planet. At the heart of that technology stack lies the Developer Platform Team, a high‑impact group dedicated to delivering a dependable, intuitive, and scalable foundation that enables every Airbnb engineer to ship high‑quality software faster, safer, and with greater confidence.

Our platform is the invisible engine that powers everything from reservation systems to personalized recommendation engines, from mobile experiences to data‑intensive services. By providing end‑to‑end tooling, infrastructure, and processes, we empower developers to focus on solving customer problems rather than wrestling with operational complexity. Joining this team means you will shape the future of how millions of engineers around the world collaborate, iterate, and innovate.

Why This Role Is a Game‑Changer

As the Senior Technical Product Manager for the Developer Platform, you will be the strategic voice that defines the vision, roadmap, and success metrics for the next generation of developer productivity at Airbnb. You will have a direct impact on the speed, quality, and reliability of every product we ship, influencing not only internal engineering teams but also the experiences of our global community of Hosts and guests. This is a rare opportunity to own a critical slice of Airbnb’s technology stack, champion the needs of developers, and bring bold ideas to life at massive scale.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define & Evangelize Vision: Craft a compelling, long‑term vision for a world‑class developer experience, championing it across engineering, product, and leadership forums.
  • Strategic Roadmapping: Translate the vision into a detailed, data‑driven product roadmap, balancing short‑term wins with long‑term architectural investments.
  • Cross‑Functional Leadership: Lead large, matrixed teams of engineers, designers, data analysts, and product marketers to deliver platform components that meet defined success criteria.
  • Stakeholder Alignment: Build consensus across multiple product groups, senior leadership, and external partners, ensuring that platform priorities align with broader business goals.
  • User‑Centric Process Design: Implement robust feedback loops—including surveys, developer advocacy programs, and analytics—to surface pain points and surface‑level opportunities.
  • Metrics & SLO Management: Define, monitor, and continuously improve key performance indicators (KPIs) and Service Level Objectives (SLOs) that reflect developer productivity, system reliability, and time‑to‑value.
  • Operational Excellence: Partner with Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) and security teams to embed best‑in‑class observability, compliance, and security practices into every platform release.
  • Innovation & Experimentation: Foster a culture of rapid experimentation, encouraging teams to prototype new tooling, automation, and self‑service capabilities that can be validated through real‑world usage.
  • Mentorship & Talent Development: Coach junior PMs and engineers, championing diversity and inclusion while building a high‑performing, collaborative team environment.

Essential Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of hands‑on experience building developer frameworks, tools, or infrastructure, with at least 8 years of product management leadership in similar domains.
  • Proven track record of delivering large‑scale platform products that serve thousands of internal developers, preferably in a cloud‑native, micro‑services environment.
  • Deep empathy for developer workflows, backed by concrete examples of removing friction, automating repetitive tasks, or improving overall developer satisfaction.
  • Strong technical fluency: ability to discuss architecture, APIs, CI/CD pipelines, and distributed systems with senior engineers and architects.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize a complex roadmap, balancing technical debt, feature development, and operational reliability.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, capable of influencing C‑suite executives, technical partners, and cross‑functional peers.
  • Experience leading cross‑functional, geographically distributed teams in a fast‑paced, data‑driven environment.

Preferred Qualifications & Nice‑to‑Have Experience

  • Hands‑on experience with modern cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) and infrastructure‑as‑code tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation.
  • Background in building tools for web and native mobile developers, including SDKs, CLIs, or developer portals.
  • Familiarity with Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) concepts, incident management, and post‑mortem cultures.
  • Track record of launching open‑source initiatives or fostering developer community engagement.
  • Advanced degree (MS, PhD) in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Experience with data‑driven product discovery using instrumentation, A/B testing, and hypothesis‑driven experimentation.

Core Skills & Competencies

  • Strategic Thinking: Ability to see the big picture while drilling down into execution details.
  • Customer‑Centric Mindset: Treat internal developers as your primary customers, continuously seeking to enhance their experience.
  • Analytical Rigor: Use quantitative data to inform decisions, set targets, and track impact.
  • Collaboration & Influence: Build strong relationships across product, engineering, design, and leadership to achieve shared goals.
  • Agile Delivery: Comfortable working within Scrum, Kanban, or other iterative frameworks to deliver incremental value.
  • Change Management: Guide teams through ambiguity, cultural shifts, and adoption of new tooling or processes.
  • Growth Mindset: Embrace continuous learning, seek feedback, and adapt quickly to emerging technology trends.

Career Growth & Learning Opportunities

At Airbnb, your growth is a priority. As a senior product leader, you will have access to a suite of development programs, mentorship circles, and technical conferences that keep you at the forefront of industry innovation. You will partner with the Engineering Leadership Development curriculum, receive personalized coaching from senior executives, and have the chance to rotate into adjacent product domains such as data platforms, machine learning services, or global infrastructure. Success in this role can open pathways to Director‑level positions, leading larger product portfolios or even shaping company‑wide technology strategy.

Our learning ecosystem includes:

  • Annual Tech Leadership Summits with thought leaders from Google, Microsoft, and open‑source communities.
  • Sponsored certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Certified Scrum Product Owner).
  • Internal Hack Weeks where you can prototype daring ideas with minimal gate‑keeping.
  • Access to a curated library of books, courses, and research papers through our partnership with O'Reilly and Coursera.

Culture, Values & Work Environment

As a remote‑first organization, we provide the tools, rhythms, and support needed for you to thrive wherever you reside. You will join a collaborative community that values diverse perspectives, celebrates bold ideas, and encourages a healthy work‑life balance.

We host quarterly virtual off‑sites, regular “Ask Me Anything” sessions with senior leadership, and local meet‑ups for remote teams to foster connection and shared purpose.
